RVA Happy Hour Cruises

You’ll reach the end of the Canal Walk at the 1.4-mile mark, but only after crossing over the Kanawha Canal three times via footbridges and tunnels. The Pipeline Trail is more or less a catwalk that runs over an old pipeline and under the railroad bridge. From the overlook, you can see across the James River to the two-mile-long CSX railroad trestle bridge. The space is home to more than a dozen super-size murals that beautify the space and make the Canal Walk that much more enjoyable on any given day. In a few more steps, you’ll spy a couple of launch areas for kayaks and canoes. In summer months, river outfitters rent out these human-powered watercraft.

Brown’s Island

These social, active adventures are the perfect way for friends, families, and colleagues to sip, sail, and celebrate on the water! Our Paddle Boat and Tiki Boat rentals are BYOB so you can enjoy the view with your drink(s) of choice! You’re empowered to drink whatever beer, wine, seltzer, or canned cocktail (such as High Noons) that you fancy.

The cruises are a 40-minute narrated tour of the James River and Kanawha Canal along Richmond’s historic Canal Walk. Riders will climb aboard a canal boat and learn about the unique history of Richmond — from the city’s railroads and tobacco warehouses to its modern gardens and wildlife — all while enjoying the beautiful views from the water. Riverfront Canal Cruises launches a full season of historic tours and private charters on Saturday, April 1, 2023. The 40-minute, historically narrated tours of the James River and Kanawha Canal operate from April to November with varying hours. Reasons to Schedule a Riverfront Canal Cruise Charter

The one exception is that we do not allow bottles of hard liquor (I know – we wish we could but unfortunately we can’t, sorry!). Nothing boosts team morale like a little vitamin D and vitamin Sea. Celebrate a milestone, bring a virtual team together, break off from a big conference or convention for a little while, or just get to know the people you spend so much time with a little bit better while you sip and sail down the James River. Elevate your evening with a dinner cruise under the stars! Bring along your favorite cuisine, uncork the wine, and indulge in gourmet meals as you glide through the night, creating unforgettable moments under the moonlit sky. I took this route, but honestly, I think your best bet is to re-trace your steps across Brown’s Island and back to the parking area.

The Pioneer Woman’s ‘Gifts for Mom’ are floral, fun …

At the 0.1-mile mark, you’ll reach an opening on the right where you can peek across to see Black Bird Island, which was key to the Haxall Mill Dam. The Richmond Canal Walk is an easy 2.8-mile out-and-back walk in downtown Richmond, Virginia that highlights four centuries of the city’s history. Our modern, eco friendly vessel provides 360 degrees viewing & the most comfortable ride with individual seating.

There is an RVA Bike Share location and a taphouse at the 1.8-mile mark, as well as a kiosk for tour guide-led cruises along the scenic riverfront canal. You’re also welcome to bring your own food (BYOF) to enjoy on your cruise! Our boats are outfitted with built-in cup holders, coolers, USB charging stations, and large Bluetooth speakers to set the vibe with your preferred tunes. Ballina is one of the most beautiful areas in New South Wales. Sitting on the Richmond River, there is plenty to do and see on a holiday or for a lovely day trip.

Location & Hours

Charters may be scheduled for any day and time during the boating season, are dependent on weather conditions and are scheduled on an individual basis, subject to availability. Taking you around the river and Ballina Island, our Ballina River Cruises give you an opportunity to spend a great day out with your family and friends, soaking up the sun and the natural sights in this part of NSW. Relaxing, exciting, and informative, our cruises make your day trip or holiday to Ballina worth your while. Our river charters will let you experience the natural landscape and the river like never before. The beautiful Richmond River in Ballina has many interesting flora and fauna.

My favorite thing is how different the city looks and sounds from the water. You really notice the quick transition from the urban landscape of downtown and the natural environment of the James River when you’re on a boat on the dividing line. It’s an easy hike and it’s very enjoyable, especially the murals at the one-time hydroelectric plant. Cross the footbridge back over the canal at the 1.9-mile mark and re-trace your steps. This allows you a second opportunity to ogle the colorful murals. In a few more steps, you’ll reach the flood wall and the end of the 52-mile Virginia Capital Trail, a paved multi-use trail that starts in Williamsburg.

Create memories with friends and family knowing you are in safe hands with our highly experienced skipper & smooth, dry vessel. Learn about wildlife, local points of interest & history of the area from our Marine Biologist guide. Sit back and bask in a glorious sunset as you enjoy complimentary beverages, locally made sweet & savoury delights, chilled tunes & the sounds of nature. Trade in rush hour for golden hour as you watch the sun set upon the city.

The River City loves the James River, so in 2022 we introduced Paddle Club RVA and Tiki Club RVA to the James to give Richmonders an opportunity to experience the James like they never have before. At the 2.3-mile mark, you can cross the canal and walk the path along 7th Street and Tredegar Street to the parking area, but it’s not especially scenic. In April, October and November, 40-minute cruises are offered Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults ( ages 12+) and $8 for seniors and children. From here, re-trace your steps, but at the 1.3-mile mark, do not cross the pedestrian bridge. At the 1.2-mile mark, you’ll cross under 14th Street, through a mural-filled underpass.
